More than 1,200 protests held nationwide
Protests across Metro Detroit on Saturday, April 5, condemned the Trump administration’s government downsizing, handling of the economy and the role of billionaire Elon Musk.
Demonstrations were held in various cities, including Detroit, Novi, Sterling Heights, Rochester, Canton, Ferndale, Wyandotte, Madison Heights and Lansing.
Nationwide, more than 1,200 protests were held Saturday as part of the “Hands Off!” mass-action movement.
“Hands off Medicaid, hands off Medicare, hands off reproductive rights,” said Janet Burke, a protester in Detroit.

Demonstrators also called out government cuts through DOGE and Elon Musk.
“Just having some guy come in and decimate the government as it is with a chainsaw instead of a scalpel, it’s pretty radical,” another Detroit protester said.
Michigan Republican Party Chair Jim Runestad defended President Trump’s cuts.
“What they’re trying to do is contain the fraud, waste, and abuse of which it is massive and stop this incredible spree that the Democrats think can go on forever like a big, long party that never ends,” he said. “Oh no the party is going to be a hangover like we haven’t seen with the worst depression if we don’t get this spending under control.”
