Henry Cejudo doesn’t have a fight booked, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have opportunities to put his skills to good use.
On Saturday, Cejudo’s producer Dylan Rush shared video of the former two-division UFC champion recounting a wild tale in which he claims he helped to apprehend a suspect in his neighborhood that crashed a vehicle and assaulted a homeowner.
Watch the clip below.
“Just like a group of teenagers maybe doing about 80 miles an hour,” Cejudo said. “I was just coming out with my producer Dylan Rush, we happened to see this car go about 80 miles per hour pretty much, we heard an *rrrrrr*. Next thing you know this dude’s going up a ramp and he smashed into my neighbor’s yard.”
In the video uploaded by Rush, the suspect can be seen being wrestled to the ground, and a man—presumably Cejudo’s neighbor—with a visible head wound is also shown. According to Cejudo, his neighbor was attacked by the driver of the vehicle in question, and that’s when Cejudo sprang into action.
“The guy got up, the guy tried to leave, and he ended up assaulting the owner because I don’t know if these guys have guns,” Cejudo said. “Once he hit my neighbor I was like, ‘Alright man, all in.’ [My neighbor’s] in his 60s, I had to go out there and pick [the suspect] up and drop him, slapped him a little bit, and some of the neighbors took some clocks at him.”
Rush also shared his own account of the drama in an Instagram caption:
Henry Cejudo just apprehended a Hit N Run driver that attempted to flee the scene
The driver was going 80 MPH in a residential area before crashing into the side of the house across the street from Cejudo. After exiting the vehicle, the driver proceeded to run and try to escape.
When the 65 year-old homeowner got in his way, the driver punched the man multiple times and began to flee before Cejudo was able to run him down and slam him on his back. The driver continued to resist before a fellow neighbor pointed a gun at him, leading him to cooperate before Phoenix PD arrived.
Cejudo most recently fought at UFC Seattle this past February, losing a technical decision to Song Yadong after a brutal eye poke to Cejudo caused the fight to come to a premature end. He is now 0-3 since coming out of retirement in 2023.
With the effects of the eye injury still lingering, Cejudo has openly talked about the possibility of hanging up the gloves a second time.
