Freeway remains closed due to oil spill
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Police said they found several whippet canisters, open intoxicants and marijuana inside a vehicle responsible for a crash that shut down a stretch of I-94.
It happened just before noon, Thursday, April 3, on the eastbound lanes of I-94, near 10 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores.
According to authorities, a 21-year-old entered the freeway at an excessive speed before she tried to squeeze between vehicles, hitting a semi truck and another car.
The 21-year-old woman and her passenger were taken to a hospital for their injuries. No one else was injured in the crash, but the semi truck leaked a large amount of oil across the freeway.
The eastbound lanes of I-94 have been closed since the crash and are expected to be closed for most of the day as the oil is cleaned up.
Police said they found several whippet canisters, open intoxicants and suspected marijuana in the woman’s car. They are working to get a search warrant for a blood draw of the driver at the hospital.
